Relentless Freeze Festival gets SIS LIVE on-piste
On October 26th and 27th, SIS LIVE delivered a live production at the Relentless Freeze Festival in London.
Set at Battersea Power Station, the festival is a two day event made up of ski jumps and live music. The festival saw the world's best freestyle skiers and snowboarders show off their best moves on a 32m long and 100m high snow slope, while internationally renowned music artists entertained the crowd.
Working for client Boomerang, SIS LIVE delivered coverage of all the sports events during Freeze Festival. To capture all the action, three fixed cameras were rigged at the top, middle and bottom of the jump, with a manned broadcast camera positioned on a crane to film the audience's reactions. These XD Cams were also recording all the action which was later edited into a full program. The four camera sources were fed back to SISCaster2. SISCaster 2 is the second incarnation of SIS LIVE’s in-house designed, built and operated compact production and uplink vehicle. SISCaster 2 is equipped with a TriCaster 855 and a 3Play 820, which makes it an ideal, complete and professional solution for live sport event productions.
The signals coming from the cameras were then mixed and fed out to big screens placed around the venue. Replays of the jumps were also delivered by the TriCaster, with images also distributed to the two presenter-commentators. Feeds from 6 PSC cameras, which were roaming the venue capturing audience reactions, were included in the big screen coverage.
SISCaster 2 was the ideal solution for this type of coverage. It is compact and versatile and only requires a small crew to operate the full production system.
For Freeze Festival, the production crew was made up of just three operators - a special cameras engineer, a camera operator and a VT operator.
They delivered a complete coverage of the sports events and ensured high quality production at an affordable budget.
Though the streaming capability was not used for this event, the SISCaster HD also offers unlimited streaming at a choice of bit rates to any server required, using its self aligning VSAT satellite technology and the streaming features of the TriCaster 855. It can encode edited clips or the live vision mixer output, using the on-board Windows Media, QuickTime, Real Player, iPhone and Flash encoders with multi-stream capability.
This was the fourth edition of Freeze Festival; it welcomed thousands of visitors.
The festival featured a variety of entertainment, including live music across five stages, with performances from DJ Shadow, Mark Ronson & Zane Lowe, Public Enemy and Grandmaster Flash. The latest trends in skiing and snowboarding fashion were displayed for sale; as well as a multitude of bars and food outlets; a cinema and the Big Air Jump.
The Big Air Jump took the centre stage and showcased the very best in snowboarding and skiing talent from the UK and abroad. The competition concluded on Saturday night with the Europe versus the World competition.
